CHICAGO (September 29, 2010) – Chicago Public Media (WBEZ 91.5 FM) continues its Off-Air Series with Drive-In Double Feature! The Detective and The Dude at the largest outdoor cinema in Illinois, Cascade Drive-In, 1100 E. North Avenue in West Chicago, on Sunday, November 7 at 6pm and 8:30pm.
Booming in the United States in the early 1950s, the Drive-In Movie Theater became one of the best ways to see multiple movies in the comfort of your car. In 1952, the Cascade Drive-In opened as one of the largest in Illinois (with 1,200 car spaces) where it remains one of the few still in business. Featuring a pair of detective films from different eras, guests will be joined by Filmspotting hosts Adam Kempenaar and Matty Robinson to take in Robert Altman’s seminal 1773 classic The Long Goodbye and the Coen Brothers' 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski. As is the Drive-In way, outside window speakers or a car FM radio will provide audio. (The Long Goodbye will screen in place of The Big Sleep, which was originally scheduled, however the only existing and usable print of the film is unavailable for this event.)
The Long Goodbye will screen at 6pm, followed by The Big Lebowski at 8:30pm. Tickets are priced per car and are $15 general admission, $12 WBEZ members, available at www.wbez.org/events.
